Behind this mess, is a very unique bookstore. The Libreria Acqua Alta is a bookstore hidden in the alleyways of Venice. Opened about 30 years ago, the bookstore grew when people started bringing books they were trying to get rid of as they were moving. The bookstore is now packed with books placed into every corner, nook and cranny. Other than general categories, there seemed to be no discernible organization to the placements of books. During high tides, many books get damaged and are placed in this alley entrance or in the back garden where it has turned into a wall you can climb. I can’t imagine what the damage was this year. I don’t know if this picture is from this year, but here is what it can look like.
