We are now in San Juan, Puerto Rico following our Trans-Atlantic cruise. It was a wonderful cruise with some wonderful stops along the way. We will post our record of the cruise very soon but wanted to get this video up to show something really cool we saw on St. Maarten’s. Our cruise ship got to St. Maarten’s yesterday just before our cruise stopped in San Juan. One of the things we had researched was this popular beach about 30mins to get there by bus, which also proved to be interesting. The public bus service is much cheaper than taking a taxi but basically consists of a fleet of vans with rows of seats. When the van pulled up to the bus stop, we initially thought it was a taxi and motioned for it to keep going. Luckily, the driver made it clear that this was the public bus and so we hopped in, squeezing ourselves into the van alongside the other passengers. However, we made it to the beach. What makes this beach so popular is that it is right next to the airport. In fact, the landing strip starts just past the beach, like literally across the street. So, these planes feel like they are landing right on top of you! It was a really cool experience, made much cooler by the fact that we got poured on as this massive rain cloud released great gusts of rain on us. We got completely soaked!
Here is the video the kids made and another video of a second plane that landed just after. The second video is a little blurrier.
