Tunnel Beach was something I had read about on the Culturetrip site. The site is great for finding recommendations on almost any place you might be visiting. The site had mentioned this place near Dunedin called Tunnel Beach. The description of a tunnel gouged into the side of a cliff leading to a beach sounded intriguing. Of course, the article failed to mention that you had to go down a steep path for about 45 mins to get there. As you are walking down this path, naturally you are doing so with the knowledge that you are going to have to go back up this incredibly steep trail to get back to your car.
No matter. We made it down and were suitably impressed by the tunnel. The term “beach” was a bit of a misnomer as it was more just a very rocky shore. You couldn’t really go out and spread your blanket to suntan on. Not that we would do that. We would just burn. We don’t tan.
Anyway, on our way back up, I saw this lady pass us and I liked the contrast her and her umbrella created with shoreline.
