It’s been a while since we last wrote and we have done a lot since then including meeting up with our wonderful family in Scotland to do lots of exploring in the Highlands and in the beautiful city of Edinburgh. However, I wanted to share all about some of our adventures in the Cotswolds, one of the most gorgeous places in the world! Wow, the Cotswolds are beautiful and there were so many places to explore like Stonehenge, Oxford and Blenheim Palace.
Did you know that Stonehenge is over 5000 years old? You heard me. About three weeks ago, we went to Stonehenge. They have a museum with lots of interesting facts about Stonehenge. Did you know pyramids are about the same age as Stonehenge? We also had a picnic. I know what you are thinking about. What’s so spectacular about a picnic? Well, we had it in front of Stonehenge! It was amazing to eat in front of Stonehenge because it is a site from 5000 years ago. Did you know that Stonehenge is really just a big clock? That’s right. It is a clock because it is aligned with the sun. They have it aligned with the sun to tell the time by when you look at Stonehenge. Judging by where the sun is you can proclaim what season of the year it is.
Next, I am going to tell you about Oxford. Oxford is a university made up of lots of colleges like Christ Church. The colleges also have a field in the middle of them called the quad. Quad means four and there are four sides of the field lined with buildings. But you are not usually allowed to walk on the grass! Oxford is also J.R.R Tolkien’s favorite place in the whole world because it was so old and inspiring for his books or was it because he worked there. After exploring the quad we went to an Evensong in Christ Church cathedral. I don’t like them that much but my dad loves them. He loves evensong because he likes listening to the songs. An evensong is like a church service but the whole service is done in music. Well, there was a bit of talking.
I thought I would not like Blenheim Palace but in the end, I could say that it was one of my favorite stops. Did you know that Winston Churchill was born here? That’s right. The Prime Minister during the Second World War was born here. The Palace also has a place in the exhibition explaining all about Churchill’s life. Wow. This train must go for one mile per hour. There is a train that goes from the Palace to the gardens and it is really slow. Read on to learn more about the gardens because I really liked them. Why do I like gardens? Well, you will learn why!
Help, I’m lost! That’s right there is a maze in the garden and Siena and I were trying to get out from the other side but all you needed to do was go to the middle of the maze. From the middle of the maze, you could find the exit. The maze was colossal and there were places to look over the maze.
Hey, Mom where are we going next in the Cotswolds? What? We’re done the Cotswolds? Then where are we going next on our trip after Scotland? Home? Well, I guess our trip is done but you can always read our blog to help you start your own adventure.
